Preliminary SAT® (PSAT) The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a standardized practice test for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) Reasoning Test™. The test also gives students an opportunity to enter National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) scholarship programs. The PSAT/NMSQT is taken in the student's junior year in high school.
